The Way of Saint Martin

This route takes the pilgrim in the footsteps of medieval pilgrims travelling from Europe to the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket. The route starts on the beach at Dover and links in Saint Martin le Grande in Dover with Saint Martin’s church in Canterbury. It takes in the fascinating history of the area. The route was created by Liz Garnett and Alexandra le Rossignol as a slow pilgrimage. It gives pilgrims the opportunity to explore the route and discover rural churches, medieval wall paintings, Norman architecture, a chalk stream and an intermittent river, archaeological finds and chalk downlands.
