As the light was beginning to glow from our Caen stone and wonderful Cathedral, I was delighted to meet these pilgrims with whom I have been in touch, completing their journey from Winchester. We had a lovely time together and I left them with our chaplain for a special blessing.

Today I saw two rucksacks pass my window so I rushed outside to greet these two pilgrims who had walked from Southwark Cathedral in the footsteps of Chaucer's pilgrims.
They received a stamp, certificate and bookmark, and a good tour of the pilgrim stained glass windows.

Also, (Champagne pop) they were the first ever pilgrims to come into our new Pilgrim Centre and christen this new space with their arrival.

This pilgrim arrived today having walked the Old Way from Southampton, which would have formed the Camino Inglès to Compostela in days of yore. He had seen my welcome video on Facebook and made sure to ask after me so I was happy to complete a certificate and take him to see the pilgrim stained-glass windows. A fitting end to a good Way.

This pilgrim arrived today having walked the Old Way from Southampton, which would have formed the Camino Inglès to Compostela in days of yore. He had seen my welcome video on Facebook and made sure to ask after me so I was happy to complete a certificate and take him to see the pilgrim stained-glass windows. A fitting end to a good Way.

They had visited the UK from Vancouver Island so had truly travelled far, and we had a nice time at the stained-glass windows looking at the medieval pilgrim stories portrayed there. With the last stamp in their pilgrim passports, and a certificate commemorating their journey, they have a few days to enjoy the delights of Canterbury.

They had visited the UK from Vancouver Island so had truly travelled far, and we had a nice time at the stained-glass windows looking at the medieval pilgrim stories portrayed there. With the last stamp in their pilgrim passports, and a certificate commemorating their journey, they have a few days to enjoy the delights of Canterbury.

Great to meet this pilgrim today who completed his pilgrimage from Southwark Cathedral. With a stamp, a certificate and photo at the pilgrim stone, we spent some time amongst the stunningly beautiful and unique collection of medieval stained-glass windows that tell pilgrim stories as documented by the monk Benedict in 1171.

Great to meet this pilgrim today who completed his pilgrimage from Southwark Cathedral. With a stamp, a certificate and photo at the pilgrim stone, we spent some time amongst the stunningly beautiful and unique collection of medieval stained-glass windows that tell pilgrim stories as documented by the monk Benedict in 1171.

Nature proceeds through its liminal journey never to be again what it once was, and yet to be what it will become. Just like the transformational power of walking pilgrimage. This artwork reminds us that life is never over. Things which some may consider spent or of little utility can be bought to new life and an onward journey of beauty and grace.

It was such an absolute pleasure to meet these pilgrims today, walking the Augustine Camino to Ramsgate. One of our Constables kindly brought them to the pilgrim stone and came to let me know they were here. We had a good time together and I made sure they saw all our pilgrim places and engaged in our pilgrim traditions. We had a meaningful discussion at the stained glass windows and then a blessing from our Chaplain, Ros. I could tell this was a special trip for them. It was their first pilgrimage and they were here after a brief spell working in London, having travelled from their home in New York State.
What a special encounter, and I wish them a good way.
